P1 had a fantastic trip out by bus to the Fire station in Newry. They met Helen Ruby’s mum and all the firefighters who were on duty. They got inside to see the fireman’s pole and saw the emergency printout and screen which tells them where to go. They then went outside and were each allowed to have a go at using the water hose to try to knock over a large cone. Even the teachers had a go at it and it was great fun. The fire men then showed them the different cutting tools which are used in car accidents. Next they got a ride in the fire engine around the car park with sirens and flashing lights. They really did have a fantastic time. Thanks very much to Helen and all the fire fighters who made the day so special for the children. They also were given lots of treats to take home with them including a chocolate bar, pencil, rubber, paper helmet and colouring pages.
