Dear Parents and Guardians,

The onset of the Coronavirus and the subsequent Lockdown has been a difficult time for all of us and I hope that you and your families are well.

It has been a particularly challenging times for everyone and in particular those involved in the Education sector with the major responsibility of our children's’ education.

Kilbroney Integrated Primary School plays an important part in the community of South Down and the Governors wish to assure everyone that the school’s ethos and commitment is steadfast and will endure this present crisis and emerge stronger when the school re-opens.
On behalf of the Governors I wish to pay special tribute to our School principal, Denise Moorehead and to her dedicated team of teachers and non-teaching staff who are endeavouring to keep the wheels turning throughout.

I know that we are incredibly indebted to you the parents and guardians who have managed to balance the demands of everyday life with the great challenge of home schooling during the Lockdown. A VERY BIG THANK YOU. I am sure that your children will appreciate this special time when they look back in years to come.
Our teachers, too must be complimented in switching so quickly to homework pack preparation, online lessons and feedback.
It is regrettable that several religious ceremonies had to be postponed during this period but I wish to assure families that we will work with all Christian and other religious advisors to ensure continuity during the next academic year.
It is also a great shame that our music, sports and other extra-curricular activities have had to be curtailed. These are also such an important part of our children’s education. I am confident that they

too will emerge stronger and better in the new “normal.”
It is also sad that the wonderful summer term at Kilbroney has not taken place this year. We all miss the laughter and joy of the children on sports day and the visits to the Park. The Parent Teacher Association’s tremendous fundraising events such as the bar b q’s, book fares, quiz nights all postponed...what a shame.
It is also so disappointing that the P7 children leaving Kilbroney Integrated Primary School are not getting the usual send off. We wish them every success in their new schools and hope that they will stay in touch with all their friends and the KIPS community.

To finish on a brighter note it is wonderful to see that the new intake numbers for 2020/21 are very positive and that plans are well advanced to reopen the school for the new academic year.
Please keep up to date with plans for school re-opening, rules, government regulations and timetables which will be posted online and on social media.

Yours sincerely,
P. Conway
