Feis an Dúin
21st Jan 2025
Our school have been taking part in two programmes since last year where we have worked with the Ulster Scots Agency and Ruairí Ó Donnáin Irish Language Development officer for Scoil Spreaghta. Last year the P6&7 classes took part in both programmes and thoroughly enjoyed the new experiences and learning which took place.
This year we have continued on with both programmes and hope to integrate both now into other classes.
As part of this integration Ruairi has provided the school with information regarding the upcoming Feis an Duin. The materials will be attached and parents should let the school know if they would like their child to take part.
If you would like your child to take part there will be sound files which will assist you with teaching the poem to your son or daughter. If you do wish to proceed and enter the Feis, please let the school know by sending in the name of the pupil, class, name of event they are entering and £1 entry fee. The school will then complete the online paperwork.
Please see the information below: This Feis is open to all classes.

Many thanks for expressing an interest in "Feis an Dúin" this year. We are delighted with the uptake and look forward a fantastic Feis celebrating and showcasing the Irish language amongst our youth in Co. Down. Due to the demand for this year's competitions we are still trying to secure an appropriate venue for the competitions on March 1st 2025. We hope to update you very soon on the venue.
Please see attached resources and information to assist with the preparations for the primary schools competitions.
Dánta / Poems:
Each class group will have a choice of 3 poems to choose from, they may choose whichever poem they wish from the list. All poems come with a sound file to assist with the teaching of the poem. Please click the play button on each page to play the poem. The file can then be downloaded if you wish.
Comhrá / Conversation:
A resource book has been created and is attached to assist with the preparation of the conversation part of the competition. Please note that this is for guidance only to assist with teaching in each class group and the competition may include other questions and topics as appropriate. Sound files and videos for the teaching of the conversation can be found online and through the "Gaeilge sa rang" resource released by the GAA which I will also attach.
Entry Forms:
Please see attached entry forms for your school. There are two entry forms; one for each competition. Please complete used the tabs in the form for each class group and return to this email address prior to the deadline 14th February 2025. Competition entry will be £1 per child per competition. The school should collect this money and send to the feis when requested. (Invoices will be sent along with bank details) once the competition entries have been received.
