This morning Rev. Elizabeth took some ingredients with her today to assembly. She had flour, sugar and lemon and asked the children to guess what it would make. The children were all excited to learn it would be Pancake Tuesday next week. Rev. Elizabeth also talked about how it is often called Shrove Tuesday and can be called Mardi Gras which falls on the day before the beginning of
Lent on
Ash Wednesday.
Mardi Gras is
French for "
Fat Tuesday", referring to it being the last day of consuming rich, fatty foods in preparation for lent.
She also discussed how we might like to give up or take things on during lent. Many thanks to Rev. Elizabeth for her contribution to our assembly once a month. We are all looking forward to some pancakes on Tuesday!
